SPAMAST officially started the week-long celebration of its 40th Founding Anniversary with the theme “SPAMAST @40: Sustaining Excellence and Embracing Educational Transformation Towards a Smart Higher Education Institution” at 9:00 am on February 2, 2022, at the New SPAMAST Gym.
The said event was spearheaded by the college president, Dr. Ruth S. Lucero, and was hosted by Prof. Dawn A. Aguadera. The participants and spectators both in live and virtual platforms were warmly welcomed by the VPAA, Dr. Grace A. Buencillo in her opening remarks.
An inspirational message was given by Dr. Lucero where she commemorated the history and origin of SPAMAST emphasizing the big dream of the founder, Former assemblyman Benjamin V. Bautista, Sr. to lift each family from the bondage of poverty through education. She also acknowledged the remarkable contributions of her predecessors. She stressed the institution’s resilience and how it has become more visible in the past two years as the college adapts to the “new normal” – embracing various strategies in flexible learning and providing educational content aided by the utilization of technology.
One of the highlights of the ceremony was the MOA signing between SPAMAST and the Department of Education, represented by SPAMAST President Dr. Ruth S. Lucero and DepEd Davao Occidental Division Superintendent, Dr. Lorenzo E. Mendoza, respectively. Dr. Mendoza has then delivered his recognition and appreciation towards the realization of the “3Rs Learning: A Home Visit Tutorial System”. This partnership aims to provide students the experiences of the real classroom scenario despite the new normal and adequately prepare the student teachers for their functions and responsibilities in the field of teaching.
The announcement of activities for the week-long Founding Anniversary celebration was delivered by SPAMAST’s Chief Administrative Officer, Dr. Lynette A. Bontia. This was followed by the closing remarks by the School Director, Dr. Pedro M. Avenido where he expressed gratitude towards the committees that helped work for the success of the event.
The blessing of the newly constructed 3-story classroom building was conducted by Rev. Fr. Randy V. Lingo at 11:00 am on the same day. Engr. Romell Ramos and Dr. Lucero performed the cutting of the ribbon. A lunch buffet was also prepared for the visitors and SPAMAST employees which marked the completion of the opening celebration’s events.
