The Philippine Information Agency initiated a youth forum for Southern Philippines Agri-business Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST), Malita, Davao Occidental. With its theme:”Partnering for change, engaging the world”.
PIA as a government organization which the primary function is to disseminate information from the government to its communities, wants to make sure that youth of today’s generation understand the purpose of ASEAN integration; on what is the vision and advocacy of the organization. This has been the 1st youth ASEAN forum in the municipality. They have launched the campus information kiosk and invited students to participate on the said forum, showing that “a well informed Filipino is an empowered citizen”.
The information center manager of PIA for Davao del Sur and Davao Occidental; Ms. Carina L. Cayon, gives the rationale of the said forum with encouraging thoughts on how wonderful it is to be a part of the ASEAN. The forum has become more interesting when Mr. Michael L. Uy, the information center manager of PIA for Compostela Valley has compared ASEAN to the death of Princess Diana which just illustrated Globalization. How different countries could contribute masterpiece and expertise with one another will turn into a more united and progressive nation.
The three pillars of ASEAN were also highlighted; the Economic community, discussed by Mr. Eulogio Orevillo, Supervising the trade and industry Development, a specialist, and a DTI-Davao occidental Field offices. The pillar on the Socio-cultural community with the head of DSWD-XI, Community-based services unit. The last pillar which is the political stability and security community was delivered by the Asst, Regional Director, DILG XI, Mr. Wilhelm M. Suyko, CESO IV.
This event also gives an updates on the Implementation of Martial law in Mindanao with the commanding officer of the 73rd infantry battalion, Col. Marion T. Angcao. This was attended by Dr. Efren F. Elbanbuena, the Regional Director of PIA region XI who gave the closing remarks of the said activity. –Sheena Love Estilloso
